Have you gotten your ducts cleaned recently?
Sometimes we only think of HVAC cleanings for our own home. We want to keep our family happy and healthy. So, why not extend the same services to our customers. Dirty ducts can circulate mold, odor, and other contaminants throughout the building. Here are some concrete reasons why cleaning those ducts is the best way to go:
Allergies- We all carry allergies through our lives. Flowers, grass, and other natural things in nature flare up our stuffy noses. Dust is another contaminant that can flare our allergies up which is why cleaning those ducts helps prevent those in our customers, employees, and our own selves.
Pets- We all love our four legged friends, but they shed. And, where does that hair go? It can head straight to our air ducts.
Efficiency- During the drastic weather months of cold and hot, we want our ducts to run smoothly and efficiently. Did you know that getting your ducts cleaned can save you money, because like everything else, it works better when it's cleaned out.
We want the best possible service for our customers and calling SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties to clean your ducts is a great place to start!

Our storm team travels from Iowa to Pennsylvania!
Pictured above is a map of all of the states our storm team has currently traveled.
Our storm team travels all over the United States to care for other communities during their time of need. The local SERVPRO's in those communities get overloaded with calls, so they activate SERVPRO storm teams from all over the country.
Our teams head into the eye of the storm going from customer to customer to help with their storm damages. It's anything from a flooded basement to sump pump failure; these teams never stop. They work continuously to help the residents of these communities.
We went to Iowa in July, and we are still in Pennsylvania working with the most recent flooding right now. We hope to help all we can while we are on site. As always, we hope they don't need us, but if they do our storm team is always on standby ready to head into the next disaster.
Bleach on Mold? Don't do it!
Here is a photo of mold damage that we came upon at a residential job last year. Our certified technicians are trained to clean up mold damage.
Mold clean-up is one of the most calls we get here at SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties and for good reason. Mold can cause illness and other harmful side effects especially in children and the elderly. Many people want to automatically turn to bleach to try and clean up the mold by themselves, because they want it gone and fast. There are many reasons not to try to clean-up mold by yourself. It's always best to call a professional, so you don't spread the mold spores, and cause an even bigger issue in your home or business.
Here are a few reasons that bleach is not a good option for your next mold damage cleanup:
- Bleach is toxic.
- Bleach loses effectiveness overtime.
- Bleach does not kill mold on porous surfaces and can actually contribute to mold growth.
Don't clean up the mold yourselves, call your local SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties. We'll make it "Like it never even happened."

Summer Fire Safety Tips to Minimize Fire Damage
It's that time of year again that everyone wants to pull out the grill and barbecue every night. We agree, but we also want you and your family to stay safe this summer season. Below are a few tips from FEMA to keep you stay grilling fire free this summer:
- Propane and charcoal BBQ grills must only be used outdoors.
- Place the grill a safe distance from lawn games, play areas, and foot traffic. Grills should be positioned at least 10 feet away from siding, deck railing, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Keep matches, lighters, and starter fluid out of the reach of children in a locked drawer or cabinet.
- Keep children and pets away from the grill area: declare a three-foot "kid-free zone" around the grill.
Remember these tips and you'll help minimize your chances of a fire damage!

Summer Time can Bring Broken Pipes for Your Home
Summer has arrived!
After a long winter of not being able to do yard work, gardening or working on that lawn you are so proud of – it is finally time to turn on that water spigot outside and get to work!
Unfortunately, that water spigot has a surprise in store for you. Many times, these outside sources of water freeze during the winter time without anyone knowing that they are frozen. Only when someone finally turns on the water for the first time does the damaged pipe become known. SERVPRO® of Pike, Floyd, & Knott Counties handles many of these calls each spring. Someone comes in from a good day of work in the yard to find a flooded house or flooded basement from that water pipe they just had on.
Let the water damage experts at SERVPRO® of Pike, Floyd, & Knott Counties take care of any of your water damage needs. Enjoy the summer time and call SERVPRO if you need us!
Home Pool Safety
We hope your pool doesn't cause water damage, but if it does --call SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties.
It's summertime (finally!) It's time for sprinklers, swimming pools, cookouts, and catching fireflies as the sun goes down. It's all fun and games, but there's ways for the fun to be ruined. SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties wants you and your family to be safe this season.
Our friends at Red Cross have some safety tips for Home Swimming Pool Safety that we'd like to share with you:
- Secure your swimming pool with the right barriers between the pool and the outside
- ALWAYS supervise anyone (children and adults) who don't know how to swim
- Keep life saving devices nearby, like life jackets
- Enforce rules and regulations for the pool that everyone knows upon entry
It's a fun time for all --let's keep it safe too!
Let's go to the beach --let's go get away!
It's that time of year again where swimsuits are being packed and sunscreen is being applied --it's beach season!
We are excited for our customers to get away for the summer and enjoy all the sun and sea salt life has to offer. There are a few things to keep in mind when vacationing at the beach.
Here are a few safety tips from our friends at the American Red Cross:
- Have young children and inexperienced swimmers wear appropriately approved life jackets
- Pay close attention to children and the elderly while at the beach
- Keep a close watch on oceanic life --jellyfish, starfish, and patches of plants (leave these alone)
We hope everyone has a great vacation season, and enjoys the beach! It's always important to have some fun!
Does Insurance Cover That?
As summer season approaches it's always a good idea to review your insurance. Insurance is great --it keeps you calm during your storm. But, your insurance may not cover as much as you think.
Your agents want to help you, try to keep in contact with them on what to do when disaster strikes. It's never a bad idea to review your contract and discuss the ins and out of what is covered. Another good idea, is to check your deductible. How much will you need to pay out of pocket before it reaches the level that your insurance can help you? Also, is there separate coverage and deductibles for hurricanes, floods, etc.
It's always good to stay prepared, and we hope that disaster doesn't strike but SERVPRO is here to help 24/7 -365!
Golf Scramble season is here --time to talk mold!

Our team had a full day telling everyone all SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties has to offer. They had a table set up in the front at the beginning of the day to tell everyone all about SERVPRO's services.
One topic that came to the forefront with a lot of these customers was mold. They knew with the weather warming up that the mold spores would be more active.
Our team let them know that we are here to help with their mold damage and cleanup needs.
Storm Season is Here: Be Ready!
It's that time of year again when April turns to May, and storms come out to play.
We all want to keep our homes and families safe during this time. The best way to keep your family safe is through an at home kit. It's all about safety first, and planning information out before the storm hits.
FEMA gives us great tips on how to get started preparing our families and ourselves for storms:
How will I receive emergency alerts and warnings?
What is my shelter plan?
What is my evacuation route?
What is my family/household communication plan?
Have a family meeting and discuss these steps to see what works best for you.
We hope you don't need us, but when the storms pass through --remember SERVPRO is here 365 24/7!

SERVPRO has come full circle –the grocery store effect.
A look at our Commercial fire damage at the Kroger in Somerset, Kentucky. We cleaned and removed smoke and soot damaged items and areas.
On a recent trip to Birmingham, our marketing team got to meet with Stan Richardson. Stan spoke of SERVPRO’s first ever commercial job. A grocery store in their previous placement in Alabama had caught fire and needed remediation fast. Stan and the SERVPRO team had never done commercial work before so it was a completely new experience. Stan got a team together, and they cleaned the fire up within ten days of the initial first notice of loss.
Now, fast forward more than twenty years later, and SERVPRO completes some of the biggest commercial jobs in the restoration field. We travel far and wide sometimes for commercial work, but we are most proud when we can help our local communities. SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties partnered with another local SERVPRO and completed a fire job in Somerset, Kentucky recently. And, what are the odds, it was a grocery store. SERVPRO has come a long way from the first commercial job, but the motto has always been the same. Whether it’s Somerset, London, or even Birmingham, Alabama; we are here to make your disasters “Like it never even happened.”

Storm damage –from Kentucky to Texas to Georgia and back again!
One of our Crew Chiefs and Marketing Reps in Georgia helping make the storm damage "Like it never even happened."
When you think storm damage, your mind immediately goes to torn roofs, downed power lines, and trees littering across street corners. SERVPRO sees a whole other side. Flooding occurs more often in storm damages than almost any other type of debris. When our teams were in Texas and Georgia they cleaned up category 1, 2, and 3 storm flood waters. Here are the differences between the three types of water damage:
- Category 1- water that does not pose much of a threat to humans and classified as "Clean Water.” Examples are broken water supply lines, tub or sink overflows or appliance malfunctions that involves water supply lines.
- Category 2- water that contains a significant amount of chemical, biological or physical contaminants and causes discomfort or sickness when consumed or even exposed to, known as "grey water.” Examples are toilet bowls with urine (no feces), sump pump failures and water discharge from dishwashers or washing machines.
- Category 3- Known as "black water" and is extremely unsanitary. This category includes water from sewage, seawater, rising water from rivers or streams, ground surface water or standing water
Call SERVPRO today, so we can make your water, flood, or storm damage “Like it never even happened.”

While the girls were at SERVPRO® of Birmingham, they trained with some of the top professionals in their field.
While at SERVPRO® of Birmingham, they even got to meet the first SERVPRO Marketing Representative, Stan Richardson, who started with this team from the beginning. He told them about his first commercial job, and how it changed the industry as we know it. A local grocery store had caught fire and while they had never done a commercial property before they took the opportunity to help in their community. They got the job completed in ten days, and thus began the commercial side of SERVPRO.

Follow P.A.S.S. to make sure your fire extinguisher is working properly to protect your family from fires and fire damage.
Fires and fire damage are common tragedies among homeowners. But, there are ways to lessen the damage. SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties is Here to Help so fires don’t ruin your summer. One is having a proper fire extinguisher --especially, during grilling season. Make sure you follow these rules from our friends at the American Red Cross when it comes to having a good extinguisher:
-Always have more than one working extinguisher in your home.
-Install extinguishers high on the wall and away from any heat sources.
-If an extinguisher doesn’t work on a fire immediately, drop it and get out. Most portable extinguishers empty in 8 seconds.
-Make sure the gauge on your extinguisher is properly charged.
-Once you have the right fire extinguisher, always remember PASS:
P- Pull the pin and hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you.
A- Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.
S- Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly
S- Sweep the nozzle from side to side.
We hope these tips keep fires and fire damage from your homes. But, if you have fire damage and need SERVPRO, we are always Here to Help. Call SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties at (606) 877-2160.

Pulaski and Laurel County Residents: Is the “Mold Monster” trying to take over your home or business?
Don't let the "Mold Monster" come after your home!
Everyone dreads when they look in their basement, under the kitchen sink, or around wet boxes in the garage and see that yellow, green, black, or orange substance. The sinking feeling hits – “I’ve got a mold problem.” While not all mold is bad, some mold can cause health concerns for many people. Any kind of water flooding in your home or business can cause mold to grow --anything from water leaks to varying humidity. The best way to get ahead of the “Mold Monster” is to take precautions. Here are some different signs that your home or business is being over-run by the “Mold Monster” himself:
- You can visibly see the mold
- Musty odor –indicates mold is present
- Any type of moisture problems that may have caused mold growth
- Excessive humidity
If you think you have a mold problem, and the “Mold Monster” has taken up residence in your home or business, please call SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties at (606) 877-2160. We are always Here to Help!
It’s not time to change the clocks back, but it is time to change your smoke alarms!
It's always that time of the year to check your smoke alarms!
Smoke alarms can improve the safety of your home a significant amount when it comes to fires. A fire can happen at any time, and you will want to make sure you and your family are safe. Here are a few tips from the American Red Cross on how to update your smoke alarms to keep your family and home safe before a fire ignites:
- Have a smoke alarm on every level of your home and in every bedroom.
- Keep smoke alarms away from windows, doors, walls, or ducts that can stop your alarms from working properly.
- Check your smoke alarm monthly.
- Replace smoke alarm batteries every year, or more if needed.
Keeping your family safe is the main priority to having a properly working smoke alarm; but fires can also cause hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars’ worth of damage every year. There is soot, smoke, and even water damage when it comes to a bad fire. The faster you know there is a fire, the faster you can get it put out. Visit: www.redcross.org to learn more tips on how to keep your home safe in case of a fire.
Whether it’s Mold remediation or Golf --SERVPRO is ready!
Marketing Rep Chanel Music getting ready for a day of fun in the sun with the SEK Golf.
Marketing Rep Chanel Music and Marketing Coordinator Kelsey White traveled up the mountain to the South-Eastern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble last week to represent SERVPRO. They met with many city council members along with business owners throughout the day. The day was fun and hot, but they did have time to talk all things mold. The participants expressed their concern for mold damage in their area. Because they know, when water damage sits for too long, mold begins to take hold. The mold spores rapidly reproduce when moisture is present. For residents that can be dangerous, and for business owners, it can cause legal issues. Mold litigation is becoming a reoccurring case in the legal systems. Commercial property or personal property should be well-taken care of in case of water damage where mold can grow. One of the most common questions we receive is: Do we test for mold? The short answer is, no; however, we do refer industrial hygienists who can test for mold.
Here’s what to do if you find mold:
- Stay out of affected area.
- Turn off the HVAC system and fans.
- Contact SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties for remediation services.
What not to do if you find mold:
- Don’t touch or disturb the mold.
- Don’t blow air across any surfaces with visible or suspected mold growth.
- Don’t attempt to dry the area yourself.
- Don’t spray bleach or other disinfectants on mold.
Here in the bluegrass state we have weather patterns that can go all over the place. Business owners, homeowners, and city officials must be prepared. When the weather acts up, SERVPRO is ready to act fast!

Unfortunately, that water spigot has a surprise in store for you. Many times, these outside sources of water freeze during the winter time unbeknownst to anyone. Only when someone finally turns on the water for the first time does the damaged pipe reveal itself. SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties handles many of these calls each spring. Someone comes in from a good day of work in the yard to find a flooded house or flooded basement from that water pipe they just had on. Let the water damage experts at SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties take care of any of your water damage needs. Enjoy the spring time and call SERVPRO if you need us!
SAHMA Kentucky Conference Attendance Exceeds 500
Marketing Reps April Goodin & Morgan Blount are pictured discussing restoration services at the SERVPRO booth at the SAHMA Kentucky Annual Conference
This year SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties had the pleasure of attending the Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association (SAHMA) Kentucky Conference in Louisville, IT. The SAHMA organization is comprised of owners and managers of affordable, multifamily housing in the Southeast. With a mission to inform and educate, the conference attendees had the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics important to the housing industry.
At the vendor show our marketing team had the opportunity to speak with a few hundred Kentucky property managers about restoration services. One of the key services discussed extensively was our biohazard cleanup. SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties covers a broad scope of biohazard cleanings including sewage backups, crime scene residues, suicide/death accidents, homicide cleanups, hoarding scenes, animal waste/remains, chemical spills, and meth lab cleanup. While most of these can be unpleasant scenarios to deal with, we are here to make the cleanup easier and downtime less for our commercial and residential customers.

SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties Mourns Death of Franchise Founder
SERVPRO® of Pulaski & Laurel Counties announced Monday that SERVPRO franchise system founder, Ted Isaacson, passed away on Friday, January 20th. “Ted was the most inspirational person I’ve ever had the pleasure of spending time with,” said Julie Roberts, Co-Owner of the local franchise, “He could fill a room with his presence, and every time I walked away from talking to him I felt like I needed to go make a to-do list of things I needed to get done!”
Ted and his wife Doris founded the company in 1967 in Sacramento, California after some time in the painting and cleaning industry. His commitment to the system, helping change people’s lives, and his family, skyrocketed the franchise system to where it is today, with over 1700 franchises across the United States and Canada. SERVPRO has been ranked #1 in the Restoration Services category by Entrepreneur Magazine continually since 2004, as well as a Top 10 member of their “Overall Franchise Opportunities” since 2010.

National Preparedness Month Focuses Home and Business Owners on Advance Planning for Disaster Recovery
Check out our Ready Plan website at ready.servpro.com, or call our office to have a Servpro Representative come to your property to help set up a plan
SERVPRO offers property owners no-cost tools for preparing a disaster readiness Plan
London, KY- (Grassroots Newswire) 9-12-16 Each September, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sponsors an awareness event—National Preparedness Month (http://www.ready.gov/September)—to encourage both home and business owners to review and update their emergency preparedness and business and life continuity plans. Julie Roberts, owner of SERVPRO® of Pulaski & Laurel Counties, encourages London, Somerset, and Corbin property owners to take advantage of the information available from FEMA, because advance planning is critical in dealing with and recovering from the unexpected.
“Most home and business owners have taken basic precautions to protect life and property in the event of an emergency like flooding, fire, wind damage, or even malicious attacks,” said Roberts. “In many cases, building codes require clearly marked emergency exits, fire extinguishers, fire and flood drills, and similar preparations. But the missing link for many property owners is a comprehensive emergency plan that provides first responders with the information they need to deal with the emergency quickly and effectively, like the location of shut-off valves, fire suppression system controls, and emergency contact numbers.”
SERVPRO offers tools for both commercial and residential property owners to help address this problem. Business and home owners alike can download the free SERVPRO READY app, and store time-critical contact and property information electronically, in advance, where it can be accessed with a mobile device in seconds if disaster strikes. In addition, when a business designates their local SERVPRO Franchise Professional as their disaster mitigation and restoration provider, SERVPRO professionals will conduct a no-cost assessment of the facility and assist the owner in completing a comprehensive Emergency READY Profile® (ERP). The ERP includes information about emergency contact numbers, priority and high/risk areas, shut-off valve locations and more that can then be stored in the READY app.
“The most effective response to any emergency is a fast response,” says Roberts, “and that means having critical information available and ready to access at a moment’s notice. FEMA statistics* show that as many as 40 percent of businesses never reopen after a major flood disaster. Minimizing downtime and repairs with a quick, effective response effort can help prevent this type of outcome for businesses and can also help families put their homes and lives back on track in less time and with less stress. Creating a READY profile in advance with SERVPRO’s no-cost tools is well worth the time.”

SERVPRO Franchises Take Away Top Honors at 2016 Convention in Las Vegas
Keep up our #ServproSummerOfSelfies social media campaign on a red carpet in Las Vegas.
The SERVPRO ownership team, consisting of Tony and Julie Roberts and Mike Parsons, returned from Las Vegas last month after a week of celebrating the accomplishments of their franchises at the 2016 SERVPRO National Convention. Held at the MGM Grand, Tony, Julie, and Mike took the very hot week (up to 120 degree temperatures) to learn more about our new Operating Software enhancements, increasing customer service rankings, new advancements in water and fire damage cleaning and equipment, as well innovative sales tactics to keep our insurance clients and property managers thinking of the SERVPRO brand.
Ironically while visiting the typically hot and dry town, terrible rain storms flooded the streets, even causing the airport to delay flights. “I received a flood warning notification on my phone” said Tony Roberts, “and naturally thought it was for London, Corbin, or Somerset flooding, and it turned out it was for Las Vegas.” Then while heading to the room, a leak in the ceiling of the casino caused a small water damage in the slot machine area. “It’s like they knew SERVPRO was in town!”
The Roberts and Parsons celebrated another year of superior performance at the Awards Banquet. Their franchises again ranked in the top 100 performers, of over 1600 franchises in the United States and Canada. They also held on to their spot in the Top Storm Team Volume Producers of all time. “We are extremely blessed with a great team, a passion for the industry, and the opportunity to help people when they need it most,” said Julie, “the fact that we are continually recognized as being the top performers in our system is just icing on the cake.”
SERVPRO Convention in 2017 is being held in Seattle, and Tony, Julie, and Mike said they plan on taking away top honors again next year. “This year we’ve been afforded the opportunity to help a lot of people with fire, water and mold damage in Southeastern Kentucky and beyond,” said Mike, “we just keep making it a priority to help those people who need it most, and our customers just keep coming back and spreading the word of our quality work.”

SERVPRO Owner Graduates Small Business Development Class in Williamsburg, Kentucky
SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties Co-Owner, Julie Roberts, earned recognition for continuing education in Small Business Leadership last month, by completing the Southeast Kentucky Economic Development’s Core Four Business Planning Course. The four week course, held in Williamsburg, Kentucky, focused on strategic planning for small businesses. With classes in Marketing Plan Development, Cash Flow, Operations Management, and Funding, the course helps local business owners like Roberts not only start new businesses, but develop existing ones. Roberts, together with her husband, Tony, have owned SERVPRO of Pulaski and Laurel Counties in London, Kentucky, for over 10 years now. They also own additional locations in the Berea/Richmond area, and the Pikeville/Prestonsburg area.
“After 11 years of doing business operations on a daily basis, sometimes you forget the small planning phases that are what built your business initially,” Roberts said. “Core Four helped me take my business back apart, re-evaluate the foundation, and set up a solid plan for our future, both short and long term.”
SKED offers many classes for small business owners throughout Eastern and Central Kentucky. “SKED has afforded us so many opportunities with business ownership I didn’t dream were possible,” said Roberts. “I encourage anyone interested in getting into small business ownership, or even interested in further developing what you have, to attend one of these classes.”
Spring Cleaning – How clean is your home’s HVAC system?
As a company specializing in cleaning services of all types and sizes, SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties finds that one of the most overlooked aspects of a clean home is the HVAC system and vents. Have you ever thought to yourself…I wonder what is in my vents? It’s a good question. If you’ve never had your system cleaned before, then consider these benefits…
From the National Air Duct Cleaners Association:
Indoor Air Quality. In a typical six room home, up to 40 pounds of dust is generated annually just through every day living! That’s potentially 40 pounds of dust covering the inside of your system and being recirculated through your home every year.
Respiratory Issues and Allergies. Think of all of the cleaning products, chemicals, dander, etc. present in your home each day. Those particles are circulated on average 5-7 times per day. These contaminants could build up in the duct work. While this doesn’t necessarily mean your system is unhealthy, the buildup and recirculation of these contaminants could pose serious health problems to those with allergies or respiratory and/or autoimmune disorders.
Energy Savings. According the U.S. Department of Energy, 25 to 40 percent of the energy used to cool or heat a home is wasted. Contaminant build up inside the system over time causes the unit to work harder and can ultimately shorten the life of your system. With a clean system, the unit doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain the desired temperature which leads to less energy being used and greater cost effectiveness.
If you haven’t had your HVAC system cleaned for some time – or ever – consider using the professional services of SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties. Our experienced team can provide you with an affordable quote to have your entire system cleaned and fogged with an EPA registered disinfectant. Having a clean system is a great way to promote healthy air quality in your home and lower energy costs each month. Sounds like a great way to kick off your spring cleaning!
Are you “Weather Aware”? Tips for Being Prepared as Storm Season Approaches
SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties has been involved in emergency storm assistance for many years now and during that time has actively worked with local insurance companies and emergency management teams to assist people in extremely difficult and dangerous situations. With severe weather season fast approaching our area, it is important to be reminded of some basic safety tips in order to stay prepared and alert during our ever changing weather patterns.
From the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management:
“When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”
Before a thunderstorm arrives, know the key warning signs: dark clouds, lightening, and thunder
Get informed with a weather radio or by watching the news
Have an emergency kit on hand that includes flashlights, battery operated weather radio, first aid kit, food and water, and essential medicines
Stay inside and sheltered. If outside, move indoors or into a vehicle. Get out of water immediately. If trapped outside, make yourself as small as possible in a low lying area
Make sure to wait at least 30 minutes after the storm has passed before going outside
In addition, in order to be prepared for a tornado:
Have a family tornado plan in place and practice a family tornado drill
Watch for weather signs like dark greenish skies, large hail, dark low clouds and load roaring sounds
Put as many walls and floors between you and the tornado as possible
Flying debris is the greatest danger during a tornado
If in a mobile home – GET OUT! Find a neighbor, underground shelter, or permanent structure for safety
As a trusted leader in emergency response for our area, SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties is committed to helping our community be prepared for weather emergencies. As a 24 hour emergency response partner, SERVPRO is dedicated to providing immediate and professional services to you and your family should the need arise during this severe weather season.
SERVPRO Names to Entrepreneur's Top 10 Franchise List for 7th Consecutive Year
SERVPRO® Named to Entrepreneur’s Top 10 Franchise List
for 7th Consecutive Year
Cleanup and restoration franchisor retains top ranking in restoration services category and climbs to #4 ranking overall in the 2016 Franchise 500 rankings
London, KY (Grassroots Newswire) 1/14/2016 - SERVPRO®, a cleanup and restoration franchise company, maintains its hold on the top ranking in the Restoration Services industry for the 13th consecutive year and moves up to the number four spot overall in the 2016 Franchise 500 rankings from Entrepreneur magazine.* This is the seventh consecutive year SERVPRO has been included in the magazine’s Top 10 list, standing out in a group of more than 951 franchises that qualified for inclusion in the list.
Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500 selection process** uses "objective, quantifiable measures of a franchise operation" to help would-be entrepreneurs identify franchise investment opportunities. Some of the most important factors considered by Entrepreneur in developing the list each year are "financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system."
"It’s exciting to be part of a dynamic organization that continues to grow and strives to always provide superior support for its franchisees, and by extension its customers," said Julie Roberts, owner of SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties. "The recognition that the company earns year after year in this prestigious list is confirmation of a commitment to excellence that starts at the top and is evident in the service that each franchisee provides to each and every customer."
According to Roberts, a number of differentiators set SERVPRO apart from the competition and fuel the attractiveness of the company to both existing franchisees and would-be entrepreneurs looking for a strong business opportunity. Key among these are:
? SERVPRO’s strength as a brand with a national footprint, wide-spread market penetration, laser-focused brand messaging, and the ability to create national partnerships with organizations such as the PGA TOUR and the American Red Cross.
? SERVPRO’s commitment to being a learning organization, which keeps training and support at the forefront of the company’s culture and philosophy of success and helps franchisees plan, track, and deliver best-in-class services to consumers.
? SERVPRO’s focus on continued development and support for proprietary software and systems to allow the company’s operational capacity to keep pace with an aggressive growth strategy.
Sue Steen, SERVPRO Industries, Inc., chief executive officer, adds, "One of the potential pitfalls of growing too quickly is outpacing your capacity to train and support the franchisees. SERVPRO® is a conservative company, and early on we took the time to build a strong system and put the building blocks in place to support growth without sacrificing support to our franchisees."
"Today," Steen continues, "as a mature franchise organization with more than 1,700 locations under a single brand, recognition like this makes it clear we are reaping the rewards of having laid a solid foundation and a framework to handle quick growth. As our brand continues to grow, we will continue our winning strategy of supporting and improving upon our infrastructure and investing resources in training and support."
SERVPRO® specializes in fire and water cleanup and restoration services, helping both commercial and residential customers recover from property damage emergencies "Like it never even happened." For more information about SERVPRO® please visit www.SERVPRO.com.

Franchises named CAPA Mentors
SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties is honored to announce that we have been named one of 35 franchises recognized as a Commercial Accounts Program Mentor. As the SERVPRO brand grows, our reputation has changed from a residential fire and water restoration company to a restoration company that is “Ready for Whatever Happens”.
Because of this success, both locally and nationally, the need for standardized systems to help develop and deliver consistency in the commercial marketplace for disaster recovery services exists. It has been inspiring to be able to help develop these systems, the training, and help utilize innovative software, sales principles, and structured business practices needed to help establish a Commercial Accounts Program nationally.
It is even more rewarding to be able to help assist franchises through this mentorship program who are newer to commercial disaster recovery, and may need help. We have committed to help any SERVPRO franchise who selects us as a Commercial Accounts Program Mentor with any assistance needed on a commercial loss, regardless of size. From managing and producing these losses to scoping, sales, estimation, or resource management, our local team is “Ready for Whatever happens”. Our team believes in the unilateral vision from our corporate office that these losses need to be structured and systematic, and consistent from coast to coast.
We are committed to using our knowledge, gained right here in Central and Eastern Kentucky, to help those who have clients in need. We want to take the time to thank each of our clients, both residential and commercial alike, for all of the support given to us over the years. Without you, our passion of serving those int heir time of need could not happen, and we are eternally grateful.
Home Fire Danger Peaks During Holiday Season
As the holiday season approaches and families gear up for decorating their homes and hosting large gatherings of friends and family, Anthony Roberts of SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties reminds homeowners to take note of some sobering statistics about home fire safety from the National Fire Prevention Association: Cooking equipment is the leading cause of home structure fires. The three peak days for home cooking fires are Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Christmas Eve.1Candles fires peak in December. The top three days for candles fires are Christmas Day, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.2
“These statistics are a serious reminder of how the excitement of holiday entertaining can quickly turn into a life-altering fire or even a tragic injury or death,” says Roberts. “While glowing candles and elaborate meals set the stage for a great holiday get-together, homeowners need to exercise extra care in controlling the dangerous potential for fires.”
According to the NFPA3, unattended cooking is by far the leading cause of home cooking fires, with frying posing the greatest fire risk and electric ranges posing a higher risk than gas ranges. Range top cooking in general started the majority of home cooking fires and caused 86 percent of related civilian deaths for the reporting period.
While incidents of candle fires peaked in 2001 and have been falling since, candles are still one of the top 10 causes of U.S. home fires, according to the NFPA. As with cooking fires, unattended or abandoned candles account for a large portion of candle fires–almost 20 percent–but the most frequent cause of candle fires is placing the candle too close to something that can burn, like curtains, decorations or furniture.
“It’s easy to see why cooking and candle fires both peak during the holiday season,” says Roberts, “and it’s also easy to see why homeowners need to take extra care when decorating their homes or entertaining. A moment’s inattention at the stove or a guest repositioning a candle on a tabletop may be all it takes to turn the festivities into a fight to save property and lives. While our business is fire and water damage restoration and we stand ready to help at a moment’s notice if disaster does strike, our sincere hope is that our friends and neighbors will enjoy a fire-free and festive holiday season.”
